Comments

This species is named after Sir Edward and Joseph Sabine who described it in 1819. It breeds in the northernmost North America and Eurasia. The eastern canadian and Greenland populations winter off south west Africa, where this photo was taken. Note the sharply contrasting upperwing pattern.
